FAQ
Booking & Payments
HOW DO I BOOK A TOUR?
To book a tour, you need to make a down payment of 500 euros to secure your place on board.
Once the tour is confirmed, the balance payment must be made no later than 90 days before the departure date.
Payment details will be provided upon booking.
Please note that different payment policies may apply depending on the tour, such as full payment requirements at the time of booking.
WHAT DOES THE TRIP COST INCLUDE?
The trip covers accommodation on a sailing boat, the services of a Skipper and a certified Mountain Guide, a Vertical Sailing Tour T-shirt, pantry ready service, three nights in the harbor, and boat fuel.
WHEN IS A TOUR CONFIRMED AFTER BOOKING?
TOUR CONFIRMED
If the tour is marked as “tour confirmed,” your booking is officially valid—no further confirmation is needed.
TOUR TO BE CONFIRMED
When you book a tour that is still marked as “to be confirmed,” it means the minimum number of participants has not yet been reached.
You will receive an email notification as soon as the required number is reached.
In case the tour does not take place, your deposit will be fully refunded.
WHAT IS THE MINIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS TO CONFIRM A TOUR?
Usually, the minimum number is around 6 participants. Before reaching this number, the tour is marked as “to be confirmed”.
WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE COST?
Travel expenses to and from the departure harbor, meals on land, additional expenses for pantry and boat extras (300 euros per person payable in cash at boarding), transportation and extra harbor fees due to adverse conditions are not included.
WHY IS THE €300 ONBOARD PAYMENT NOT INCLUDED IN THE TOTAL COST?
The €300 onboard payment is collected in cash at boarding to cover shared expenses that vary depending on the tour. This includes pantry service (pre-arranged food and beverages), fuel for the boat, and marina fees. Since these costs can fluctuate, keeping them separate ensures transparency and fairness for all participants.
WHAT HAPPENS IF VST CANCELS THE TOUR?
If VST cancels a confirmed tour, you will receive a full refund of the amount paid. No refund will be issued for additional expenses like transportation or accommodation
CAN I CANCEL MY BOOKING?
Yes, cancellation is possible, but please note the following conditions:
The deposit of 20% of the total trip cost per person is non-refundable under any circumstances, except when a tour remains unconfirmed and is canceled by Vertical Sailing Tour.
If you cancel more than 90 days before the tour starts, your balance payment will be fully refunded.
If you cancel 90 days or less before the tour starts, no refund will be issued and 100% of the total amount will be charged.
We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance to cover unforeseen circumstances that may require cancellation.
IS THERE ANY INSURANCE COVERAGE?
Yes, all Skippers and Mountain Guides have personal insurance that covers the crew during sailing and climbing activities. Guests are encouraged to purchase additional travel insurance for extra protection.
Life on Board of a Sailing Boat
HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE USUALLY ON BOARD?
Groups are typically composed of 8 to 11 people, including the skipper and, if present, a mountain guide. The boats are spacious and designed for comfort.
CAN I ARRIVE EARLIER THAN THE SCHEDULED CHECK-IN TIME?
Check-in begins at 18:00 as stated in the program. The boat will likely not be available before 16:00, meaning we won’t be able to accommodate guests or their luggage earlier than scheduled. We recommend arriving at 18:00 to ensure a smooth check-in process.
WHAT IS LIFE LIKE ON BOARD?
The crew usually consists of a Skipper, a Mountain Guide, and 7 to 10 guests. The boats are 45 to 55 ft. long with 4 to 5 cabins and 2 to 3 toilets. Guests are responsible for organizing accommodations in shared cabins and participating in daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and stowing gear. Water and electricity must be used conservatively.
WHAT IS THE TYPICAL GUEST PROFILE ON SHARED TOURS?
The clientele varies widely, and it is impossible to predict the exact composition of a group in advance. Groups are typically composed of 8 to 11 people, including the crew.
On board you might find:
- Friends or couples, with a mix of ages ranging from young to older adults.
- Solo travelers looking for adventure and team spirit.
- Guests focused on both the quality of the climbing routes and the maritime exploration.
Note on Atmosphere: The boat atmosphere can range from quiet to lively, and we cannot guarantee a specific environment beforehand. If you prefer a completely customized and controlled environment, we recommend the Private Tour option
ARE COUPLES PROVIDED WITH PRIVATE ROOMS?
Yes, couples have priority for private cabins with double-sized beds. The double occupancy price is designed for couples or friends who wish to share a double bed. Bathrooms are typically shared, with most boats having one bathroom per room, but layouts vary, and we cannot guarantee a private bathroom for double cabins. Sharing spaces is an essential part of life on board, fostering a sense of community and teamwork among the crew.
HOW DOES THE BATHROOM WORK ON BOARD?
Toilets typically operate with a manual or electric pump and should only be used for natural waste and toilet paper to prevent blockages. Water should be used sparingly during showers since fresh water is limited until the next refill. Cleanliness is a shared responsibility to ensure comfort for everyone on board.
DOES EACH ROOM HAVE A PRIVATE BATHROOM?
Most boats have shared bathrooms, with at least two on board. However, certain front cabins come with a private bathroom. Availability is limited, so if you require a private bathroom, please request it at the time of booking, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
CAN I JOIN WITHOUT PRIOR SAILING EXPERIENCE?
Yes, no sailing experience is necessary. The Skipper will provide safety instructions and sailing tips throughout the tour.
WILL I BE ABLE TO LEARN HOW TO SAIL?
Yes, the Skipper will offer lessons on sailing and navigation. You can learn about sails, winds, knots, navigation, and more.
WHAT IF I GET SEASICK?
Our sailing routes typically stay close to the coastline, where the waters are generally calm and the likelihood of seasickness is low. However, if you’re prone to motion sickness, don’t worry—it’s usually short-lived and part of the adventure. We recommend packing motion sickness remedies, such as anti-nausea tablets or patches.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS BAD WEATHER?
Weather at sea can be unpredictable, but there’s no need for concern. At the sole discretion of the skipper, the itinerary may be modified for safety reasons. In case of adverse weather, alternative plans can be suggested to the group, such as onshore excursions or seeking shelter in a marina. These changes will be made with the group’s agreement, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone on board.
HOW DOES ELECTRICITY WORK ON BOARD?
While docked, the boat connects to shore power, allowing you to use regular outlets for charging devices.
At sea, electricity comes from onboard batteries that supply 12-volt power, similar to a car.
We recommend bringing a car charger adapter for convenience. Keep in mind that high-powered devices like hair dryers aren’t suitable for onboard use—luckily, the sea breeze and sun will do the job naturally!
WILL I HAVE CELL SERVICE OR WIFI DURING THE TOUR?
Most of the tour takes place close to the coastline, so mobile signal is usually available. However, we also sail to remote bays and wild islands where coverage can be limited or temporarily unavailable. If you need to stay in touch with someone at home, we recommend informing them in advance and planning short updates when coverage is strong. It’s also a great opportunity to disconnect and enjoy the experience fully.
IS A SLEEPING BAG NECESSARY?
No, blankets and sheets will be provided on board. However, if you prefer, you are welcome to bring a sleeping bag for extra comfort.
HOW ARE MEALS ORGANIZED ON BOARD?
Meals are prepared and shared by the group. Food and drinks are always available, and tasks such as cooking and cleaning are managed together in a team spirit.
ARE VEGETARIAN MEAL OPTIONS AVAILABLE?
Yes, we accommodate vegetarians on board. Meals prepared on the boat can be adjusted to suit vegetarian preferences, ensuring a balanced and satisfying diet throughout the trip. Additionally, for the few dinners planned on land, restaurants will offer vegetarian options as well. If you have specific dietary requirements, please let us know in advance so we can better cater to your needs.
Climbing
DO WE NEED A MOUNTAIN GUIDE IF WE ARE EXPERIENCED CLIMBERS?
No, if your group consists of experienced climbers, you can opt for a private tour without a guide, which lowers costs. In this case, we will provide information on the best climbing spots, and you will be free to climb independently. If there are mixed skill levels, the guide will assist the less experienced while more advanced climbers can tackle their preferred routes.
IS DEEP WATER SOLO SUITED FOR EVERYONE?
Yes, deep water soloing is a fun and adventurous activity that complements life on board. However, for a more enjoyable experience, it’s best suited for climbers who can handle a grade 6b or higher due to the overhanging nature of the routes.
WILL THERE BE CLIMBING ROUTES OF MY GRADE?
Yes, climbing crags with a wide range of grades are selected to ensure everyone can find routes that match their level.
CAN I JOIN WITHOUT PRIOR CLIMBING EXPERIENCE?
Yes, a Mountain Guide will be on board to teach climbing techniques, rope maneuvers, and safety procedures.

A private tour typically makes sense with a minimum of 6 guests. The more participants you have, the more cost-effective the trip will be for each person.
Travelling with Kids & Family
CAN I BRING CHILDREN OR MINORS ON BOARD?
Yes, it is possible to bring children or minors on board. We have had positive experiences with children in the past, and both the Skipper and Mountain Guide are comfortable having a child on the boat who may climb or remain on board. However, to ensure maximum safety and to tailor the itinerary to the family’s needs,we strongly recommend opting for a Private Tour.
WHAT ARE THE SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS FOR A FAMILY OF THREE?
Standard cabins are designed for two people (double or twin beds). For a family of three joining a standard (shared) tour, specific arrangements may be required.
We highly suggest a Private Tour to allow you to choose a boat with an optimal cabin layout for your family’s comfort.
Private Tour
WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR A PRIVATE TOUR?
While it’s possible to organize a private tour for a couple, a private tour typically becomes more cost-effective with a minimum of6 guests. The price per person is greater for smaller groups.

You can customize several elements, including:
- The dates (must be Saturday to Saturday, 8 days, but you can embark/disembark earlier).

The itinerary (allowing for more sailing, sightseeing, or specific activities like DWS/trekking, and integrating local cultural experiences)
HOW DO I GET A PRICE ESTIMATE FOR A PRIVATE TOUR?
To give you an accurate price estimate, we need to know yourLocation,Tour dates (Saturday to Saturday), and theNumber of guests. The final price is influenced by the boat size/year/type (monohull vs. catamaran), the dates (high vs. low season), and the destination.
CAN WE HIRE A HOSTESS/COOK FOR THE TOUR?
Yes, you can choose to have ahostess/cook on board to handle meal preparation and cleaning.
MUST WE INCLUDE A MOUNTAIN GUIDE?
We highly recommend having one of our professional Mountain Guides. They know the destinations and climbing routes well, which is a big plus for maximizing the climbing experience regardless of sea and weather conditions. However, as it is a private tour, you have the option to decide not to have one if your group is highly experienced.
ARE THERE ACTIVITIES FOR NON-CLIMBERS?
Yes. Non-climbing guests can enjoy many activities, includingsnorkeling, fishing, trekking, beach life, and simplychilling on board. On a private tour, the itinerary is flexible, allowing the crew to dedicate entire days to activities like sightseeing or an overland trek. We can also help arrange specific activities, like a scuba dive, if you have certified divers.
DO YOU OFFER TOURS IN AUGUST?
We generally do not offer Sail & Climb tours in August due to the heat in the Mediterranean. However, if August is your only option, we can organize a private tour. We would focus on shadier crags, windier locations, and Deep Water Solo areas to ensure the best possible experience
